THE SCIENCE AND PRACTICE OF HOMEOPATHY

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a scientific method of therapy discovered by Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician, nearly 200 years ago and is based upon the principle of stimulating the body's own healing processes in order to cure illness. Because homeopathy is successful in the treatment of both chronic and acute diseases, it has stood the test of time and is now recognized not only in the United States, but in Europe, India, and South America.

What is the Difference Between Homeopathy and Orthodox Medicine?

There are two fundamental ways to view disease: as a malfunction of specific components of the body, or as results of deeper disturbances of the person as an integrated whole. The first view forms the basis of orthodox medicine. for an Orthodox Practitioner, symptoms are counteracted by drugs in a reflex fashion, i.e. a decongestant for a runny nose, and analgesic for pain, steroids to counteract inflammation, etc. The second philosophy is based upon ancient concepts of healing. From an "holistic" point of view, each one of us is a complete individual--physically, emotionally, and spiritually--whose components a homeopath cannot separate.

How Does Homeopathy Work?

Holistic therapies recognize that the body has its own mechanisms for healing. The role of a homeopath is to stimulate these innate mechanisms so that healing can take place. We begin with the assumptions that every individual is a mystery, but that there are identifiable laws of cure which we must always follow. To include both the knowable and the unknowable in our understanding, homeopaths speak of the "vital force"--the dynamic, energy of the person, including their emotional and mental htmlects, as well as the physical. It is this vital force which is being stimulated specifically by our homeopathic remedies.

Homeopaths pay close attention to a person's symptoms, because they are signs of the vital force trying to heal. The task of the homeopath is to gather as much information as possible about the totality of symptoms in order to understand all the ways in which the vital force is already acting. Prescriptions are based solely on symptoms verbalized by you and any physical observations I make, not on laboratory data machine technology, or extrapolation from animal studies.

How Are Homeopathic Remedies Made?

Homeopathic remedies are prepared from over 2000 mineral, plant, and animal sources. Each remedy is first tested to determine which type of individual responds most strongly to each substance. The choice of remedy is determined by the uniqueness of the person. The experiments, therefore, record in great detail the mental, emotional, and physical resonances of each experimental subject. In other words, there is a kind of resonance between each person and some specific mineral, plant or animal substance. The task of the homeopath is to match the total picture of symptoms provided by you with a homeopathic remedy which will most effectively resonate with your vital force as a whole. It is this powerfully stimulated vital force which then cures whatever disease may be present. The basic law underlying homeopathy, therefore, is the Law of Similars: whatever substance produces symptoms in a healthy person will cure those symptoms in a sick person.
